Sticky Chicken and Other Stuff

I suppose it’s time that I share my beloved Sticky Chicken recipe.  I made it last week and talked about how much we rave over it.

Sticky chicken is simply BBQ chicken made with my homemade, now not-so-secret BBQ sauce.

Don’t be scared of making your own BBQ sauce.  It’s really easy.
I started playing with this recipe about 4 years ago and finally perfected it last summer.

Actually I just decided to write it down so I wouldn’t keep guessing.

Are you ready?

Here you go.

Alisha’s Sticky Chicken
12 chicken thighs or leg quarters (bone in and skin on)
Vegetable oil
Salt and pepper

1 cup ketchup
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. Chili powder
1 tsp. Garlic salt
1 tsp. Onion salt
1 1/5 tsp cajun seasoning
1 tbsp. Minced garlic
2-3 tbsp. Dried onion flakes
1 tbsp. Honey
1 tsp. Liquid smoke
1 tbsp. White vinegar

Get your coals started or the gas turned on.  Either way get the grill good and hot.

While the grill is getting hot prepare your chicken by drizzling with the oil and covering generously with salt and pepper.  Set aside.

In a sauce pan, over medium heat, mix all sauce ingredients together.  Adjust to your taste.  If it seems too sweet add more vinegar and onion salt.  If it’s too tart add a little more honey.  Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 15 to 20 minutes or until it thickens and all the seasonings get happy together.

When the grill is ready place the chicken on it skin side down.  Cook the chicken on both sides for about 10 minutes.  When the chicken is almost done slather it with the sauce.  Put the skin side down and grill until the sugars in the sauce start to carmelize.  Flip and cook the other side the same way.  Repeat the saucing/carmelizing process one more time.

After the chicken gets some good dark carrmelization on both sides it’s done.

Our weekend plans didn’t go as we had originally planned.

We didn’t end up making it to the rodeo which was fine because Grady and his dad had a HUGE task of building fence.

Yes, they planned it for Mother’s Day weekend.

Was I thrilled about it?

No, but that’s life and it goes on.

Grady will make it up to me.

Our nephew came to help.  Watching the boys together was great entetainment for Jackie and I.

They all worked hard and were exhausted by the end of the weekend, but they got a TON accomplished.

While the guys worked I took pictures of the wildflowers and this amazing little guy.

Cade had his last track meet Monday.  Grady and I took the afternoon off to watch.

You know the kid is exherting a lot of energy when he makes this kind of face…

What you don’t see is that he totally smoked two kids on his leg!

He did well.

Fourth place in the hurdles.

Third place in the 4 x 2.

Way to go Cade!

Peace, love and sticky fingers.
